After gobs of publicity the past few weeks stating that Michael Rosenbaum had no intention of returning as Superman’s arch nemesis Lex Luthor for the series final season or final episode, Rosenbaum himself released a statement yesterday that reads:

“I’m delighted to return for the series finale. I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats.”

Whether this was a long-planned strategy on the part of Rosenbaum, the series’ producers or both in order to heighten interest in the show’s final season or if Rosenbaum finally gave in to fans’ vocal complaints about his reported refusal to return, one thing is clear: Lex is back!
